We Sleep Alone is Out Now!
The New EP by One Cure For Man. Recorded during January & March 2022 at James' home studios and mixed by long time friend and producer, John Meredith. It's the first collection of songs that James has recorded that are all acoustic instruments (well except for electric bass guitar). It's been a real challenge but the emphasis has been more on the songwriting and vocals and acoustic guitar and less on production. Music Matters said about the first lead single 'On The Edge': "Ladies and gentlemen, the wait is over. The genius that is James Parkinson of One Cure for Man has unleashed his latest masterpiece into the world. “On The Edge” will stun you with its thoughtfulness, brilliant composition, and wisdom." And described the second single as: "“The Now” practically screams at us to stop and focus on the present. But it does so in such a way that has become so characteristic of this wonderful artist. The music and lyrics combine to form pure poetic beauty and grace. The lyrics want us to disregard time and focus on what really matters, the glorious now. And the irony here is that the track itself feels spectacularly timeless. Effortless. Fluid. And one that demands a listen far more than once." We Sleep Alone is available on CD & download at Bandcamp and all streaming sites. We really hope you enjoy it! |
'Into The Deep' is the the last single from the new Ep 'We All Pretend' and it's a lively one!
'Into The Deep' is song all about power & corruption and the paths we choose in life to hopefully avoid it. With hints of James' heroes Aztec Camera, Prefab Sprout, The Clash & Paul Simon, the song is an uptempo observation of the structures of power within relationships, society and in life.

New Animated Single 'The World In Autumn Sun' Is Out Now
The World In Autumn Sun is all about the clarity and vision that comes from being in nature but in particularly the sun during that period. It was written one beautiful autumn day when the sunlight arrested me and inspired me to write. I'd just found out I had a shadow on my lungs and I had to go to the hospital for a biopsy. The sudden rush of thoughts as to what it could be gave me a lucidity that is unparalleled when you are in a heightened state and the beauty of the sun did everything it could to make this clearer and reflect. The words poured out of me and a song was born. I have always found the beginning of Autumn deeply beautiful and extremely melancholy since I was a teenager and this song is an attempt to capture those feelings.
The animated video was created by James in his home studio using stop-motion and line drawing techniques and took one month to make.

The Now is the new single by One Cure For Man and it's all about living in the moment
'The Now' is a bittersweet tale of how we can all learn from children to live in the moment. In a world of catch-up and obsessions with the past, it's becoming increasingly more difficult to live in the present. Very young children have little concept of time and seem to feel anything but the moment as they let their hearts rule rather than the mind. I wanted to write a song that captures these moments and celebrates the heart and impulse of being 'In the Now."
The Now videos features both James' children Dylan & Leo, each representing their ability to live in the moment and lose themselves.

On The Edge is the first single taken from the new acoustic EP 'We All Pretend'
“On The Edge" is about the actor Richard Burton and the poet and writer, Dylan Thomas. The song delves into the fascinating lives of these incredibly talented men who were both tragically drawn to the edge. In a Michael Parkinson interview, Burton discussed with him the notion that many creative Celts are often drawn to precipices, sometimes going over them. And that they often have a "death wish" despite their obvious creative talents. Burton said in 1974: "I didn't fancy much staying alive....I couldn't bear it's (the world) richness and beauty ... I thought it's best to leave it."
The video was created by James, his brother Ben & wife Hazel and edited by Jason Marshall. It was filmed at The Red Lion Pub at Earby, Lancashire and features Roy Turner on saxophone.

TOO MANY SONGS IS THE LATEST SINGLE BY ONE CURE FOR MAN
A heartfelt tale on the struggles of writing songs with depth and meaning!
A heartfelt tale on the struggles of writing songs with depth and meaning!
“Too Many Songs" is my brand new single, released on 24th September. I really hope you enjoy it.
The song is not as much about the struggle to write a song with meaning, depth or emotion but the struggle to get the world to listen to it. Songs are becoming more one dimensional and simple, dominated by the novelty of technology and sound. People seem to want easy, catchy songs and struggle to understand complex lyrics, subject matters or chord sequences. I’m still optimistic there is an audience, but you can’t help feeling the sense of loss and the decline of songwriting as an art-form.
The video was filmed and edited by Jason Marshall and inspired by the art of Edward Hopper, Caravaggio & Rembrandt.

"Exquisite and powerful indie poprock, Too Many Songs is strong, has lyrics that hit us like a bullet, and James' voice is impressive, the chorus is so impactful it reminds us of 80s classics, a romantic ballad to take to everywhere on our headphones, a song that stands out among so many releases." - Indieoclock
"Parkinson’s music is increasingly attaining a near-anthemic status among generations." - Sinusoidal Music

EVERYTHING (Promise Me) BY ONE CURE FOR MAN
The song was produced by Matt Heap of the Fuzzy/Alt Rock band 'Honeyspider' and is about the act of self-reflection and your own perception of life, whether inside, outside or in your head. It looks deep into the idea of an internal voice that wonders, acts on creativity and reflects on the world around making you think for yourself and promoting the individual Hopefully, bringing positivity and humility rather than destruction and chaos, as everything is not as it seems. The video was shot in James' garage and reflects the current nature of life and the music world, being trapped in four walls and not being able to "get out". Featuring home video footage from the 1980's of his late father, Allan Parkinson (Slack Alice guitarist) and younger self and brother posing as rock stars. The videos juxtaposes James' current life with his young children (Leo and Dylan) and younger brother, Ben Parkinson on drums. The desire was to create a real sense of frustration, melancholy and high-emotion with the innocence and joy of young life.
"Four minutes of timeless alt-rock, “Everything (Promise Me)” bridges the gap between the riff-heavy grunge of bands such as Smashing Pumpkins and the soaring optimism of classic rock." - RGM Press
"Memorable melodies and choruses that instantly grab you. Both the guitar work and drums are also standouts. The lyrics are gorgeously poetic with beautifully-written, evocative lines. When it comes to British indie musicians, you don’t get many that are this good with everything they create" - Leo Sigh Magazine

NEW SINGLE 'HUMBLE' OUT NOW
James' new single 'Humble' explores the complexities of moving on from death but remembering and learning from the past. The song deals with the confusion of living life and progressing whilst dealing with an overwhelming sense of melancholy and loss. The video features James' four year old son, who explores many of the places he spent his childhood. One of the locations, Ghyll Church, is in his hometown of Barnoldswick. This is where both his father and grandparents are buried. James says "I think it’s a very beautiful thing when you mix the innocent with the humbling experience of walking through a graveyard of all those lives lost."
"Beautiful lyrics, an immediately addictive melody, superb vocals and a guitar solo I played through about five times it really is that gorgeous." - Leo Sigh Reviews
"Humble is a meaningful and smart piece of music that does an excellent job of tugging on the heartstrings of most who will hear it." - The Sounds Won't Stop
"It is a brilliant song with a big heart. Lyrically, ‘Humble’ is relatable and reaches out to touch the listener. A wonderful composition." - FV Music Blog

James says about the song: "I wrote the lyrics whilst painting my study last year. I had been playing lots of my record collection and thinking about the way decorating and changing things feels like fresh starts but also presents a sense of melancholy and bringing up the past. My dad unfortunately died very suddenly at age 67 in 2017 and I bought my parents old house which they lived in for 25 years, as I did until I was 19. Losing a parent young has undoubtedly made me aware of my own mortality to an almost heightened sense. It can feel very strange and confusing at times owning something that once belonged to a parent, particularly when they are gone. It also got me thinking about all those lives that have lived in one house."

The Haunted is out now!
James' new single 'The Haunted' is a collection of thoughts on how today’s ever-changing world of social media creates a false and damaging perception of the lives around us. Many of us find ourselves feeling envy at what we see through the lens of our friends’ social media presence, only to learn much later about the suffering behind the smiles. In some cases, far too late.
The video (directed and produced by Jason Marshall of I am eye productions) is inspired by the life of James’ friend who tragically took his own life last year. It celebrates his incredibly colourful and vivacious character; his love for music, art, films from the highest arthouse to the most popular of pop culture. It's aesthetics take inspiration from the paintings of Edward Hopper, specifically the clown in ‘Soir Bleu’ and the scene from ‘New York Apartment.’

"It’s a very thought-provoking piece when you combine the music, lyrics and video elements" - Reyt Good Magazine
"The track itself has a gorgeous melody, the piano is hella hella clean, the drums are slamming good, Parkinson’s vocals are powerful, soaring and rich, the man plays a damn mean guitar and the sentiment behind the song is something we should all be paying more attention to."- Leo Sigh Reviews
"One Cure For Man tells a sad tale of modern life in ‘The Haunted’ using a combination of bitter melodies, provoking lyrics and stirring vocals. The falsettos throughout the track give you goosebumps and drive home the message of the song." - The Other Side Reviews
"Ever thought-provoking and always compelling, One Cure for Man is a unique artist. We thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Haunted’" - FV Music Blog
